VI. Professional practice
Postgraduates taking part in teaching or medical practice is an important aspect for them to develop and improve their professional level.
Professional practice of basic courses for postgraduates is mainly based on teaching practice. And the ways can be trial teaching, counseling, guidance and experiments and so on. The time for teaching practice can be concentratedly arranged and can be arranged dispersely. The postgraduates who are responsible for teaching and guiding experiments must take part in collective lessons preparation, carefully finishing the prepared work of teaching as well as teaching summing-up when the course is over.
Head of the Teaching and Research Department should arrange the teacher whose title is above the lecturer or arrange the mentor to guide the teaching practice for the postgraduates. And the head will check their teaching quality in time so that the postgraduates will have initial experience of the teaching work for the undergraduates. And this will exercise their expression abilities and develop their ability on analysis, synthesis, judgment and reasoning. Teaching practice at least needs one semester, for the postgraduates who have experience on professional teaching and their titles are above the lecturer, they will first assessed by the head of Teaching and Research Department and the mentors, and then the postgraduates can reduce the time of teaching practice, but the credits are the same. Graduating students and the graduates who are non-professional in this major can properly extend their time of teaching practice according to their abilities on the premise of ensuring the completion of the thesises. But the credits cannot be increased, after the teaching practice is over, the head of Teaching and Research Department, the mentor and the teachers should evaluate teaching quality for the postgraduates timely, carefully fill out “Assessement form of teaching practice for postgraduates of basic courses in Dalian Medical University”, and then submit to the Postgraduates Department for approval and record within one week.
Graduates and non-professional to obtain post-graduate, and ensure the completion of paper under the premise may be appropriate in accordance with its ability to extend the teaching practice time; but does not increase the credits after the end of teaching practice, Teaching and Research Office, mentors and teachers for their teaching in a timely manner effects are assessed carefully fill out the "basic disciplines of Dalian Medical University Master's teaching practice evaluation form", in the week to send the Department of Audit Graduate archive
For the postgraduates of Clinical disciplines, their major practice is based on medical practice, and taking the clinical teaching practice as auxiliary, the time of teaching practice should be no less than 40 hours, other detailed requirement are the same as the basic course. Time for medical practice should be at least one year and regularly conducting department rotation. The practice should focus on clinical diagnosis, treatment and skills training so that it will have the ability to deal with the common diseases. After the major practice ends, the head of Teaching and Research Department, the department director and mentor should evaluate graduates’ ablities on basic theory and skills of common disease diagnosis and treatment for the second discipline, logical thinking ability, medical ethics and other aspects during their clinical practice, meantime fill out “Clinical assessment form of clinical courses for the postgraduates in Dalian Medical University”, and should submit to the Postgraduates Department for approval and record within one week.
VII. Dissertation
Dissertation work is an important part for postgraduates’ cultivation, and is the full training of scientific research or technical expertise for postgraduates. It is an important part for training their ability to innovate, comprehensively use learned knowledge to discover problems, analyze and solve problems. It also requires postgraduates to complete an article that is published on the national core journal during the period of their learing. In order to ensure the quality of sissertation, the mentor and guidance team should pay attention to the following aspects.
1. Careful selection of topics, and good completion of opening report
It should pay attention to the following principles when selecting topics: the course of scientific, innovative, advanced, application and feasibility.
Content of opening report includes:
(1) The source of the topics, basis of topics selection and its domestic research dynamics;
(2) Aim, significance and application prospects for the topics’
(3) Topic design proposal, implementation plan schedule and expected results;
(4) Possible difficulties and solution measures during research process;
(5) Estimation of workload and expenses.
The opening report will be conducted at the end of the third semester, the opening report need to write a written report and then is approved by mentor and mentor teams.
First under the leadership of the head in Teaching and Research Department, the head will organize mentor, mentor team and related staff to conduct opening reports in the department, and then the chairman of Degree Assessment Sub-committee will organize sub-committee and experts of related courses to review the opening report. The opening report will be revised furtherly after review, and then the “Research schedule of the course” will be filled out formally in triplicate. The topic plan cannot be revised if it is approved. If there is special situation to change the topic, it must re-conduct opening report and perform the same approval procedure.
2. Regularly examining the progress of the topics
The mentor should often examine topic progress and access to original records; the mentor team regularly analyzes and discusses the research results with the postgraduates.
3. Carfully organizing pre-defense, strictly doing the organization work of thesis defense.
(1) Organizing the pre-defense; first draft of the thesis should be written in a unified form, and after revision by the mentor, the head of Teaching and Research Department will organize and arrange pre-defense.
(2) Formally finalized, printing the thesis
After the Teaching and Research Department organized the pre-defense, the postgraduates will revise and add the first draft, and finally the mentor wll examine and approve the draft. The thesis must have correct topic, rigorous analysis, calculation accuration, reliable statistics, concise language and clear diagrams. The cover of the thesis should be unified by the university.
(3) Applying for defense
Before defense, the “Application form of defense situation” needs to be filled out, and the Postgraduates Department will review the credits and grade points of the courses, if all achieve the requirements, the reviewer of thesis check and the Defense Committee will start the defense work according to the requirement (details refer to Degree rules in postgraduates handbook),
(4) Organizing defense
The Defense Committee will follow the guideline of “Adhering to standards, strict requirement, ensuring quality and fair and reasonable”, and organize defense process according to the rules of our university. The secretary should make detailed records. And the thesis defense process and detailed requirement can refer to related regulations for degree.
(5) Awarding degree
Those who have passed the defense will be awarded degrees through the discussion and approval by Degree Assessement Committee.
