In the afternoon of January 3, the 2023 Winter Commencement Ceremony of International Students and the Second International Student Supervisor Conference were held in the Academic Conference Hall. Professor Zhao Jie, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Dalian Medical University, Professor Shao Shujuan, Vice President, leaders of functional departments, representatives of international student teachers, teaching supervisors, international graduate student instructors, representatives of international student practice and teaching base, all the staff of International Education College, as well as representatives of the relatives, friends and parents of the graduates totaled more than 300 people attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Lu Wei, dean of the School of International Education.
Vice President Shao Shujuan delivered a speech first, on behalf of the university, she warmly congratulated the 67 international students from 21 countries for successfully completing their studies and expressed her earnest expectations: to uphold the “benevolence and services to mankind”, and practicing the honorable mission of medical benevolence; to uphold “inquisitiveness” and “self-improvement”, and enhance the mastery of medical skills; to uphold “openness and exchange”, and promote the building of a community with shared mankind future. Afterwards, Dean Lu Wei read out the Decision on Degree Conferment for International Students in the Winter of 2023, and President Zhao Jie turned the tassels for doctoral, master’s and undergraduate graduates and awarded diplomas to them respectively.
Prof. Yan Jinsong of the Second Affiliated Hospital spoke as a representative of the teachers. He recalled his own growth experience and encouraged the graduates to uphold the beliefs of scholars and healers, not to be afraid of challenges, to pursue courageously, to strive for excellence, and to carry on the DMU spirit.
On behalf of the graduates, Mark, an international student of MBBS, expressed his gratitude for the cultivation of his alma mater and said that he would continue to shine as an alumnus of Dalian Medical University and carry on the DMU spirit in the future. Afterwards, representatives of the graduates presented flowers to the representatives of the teachers who had nurtured and guided them so diligently. In between the graduation ceremony and the conference, the graduates also performed a well-prepared program to express their gratitude and respect to their alma mater.
At the Second International Student Supervisor Conference, President Zhao Jie awarded certificates of academic degree international doctoral supervisors to six professors including prof. Mao Jingwei, and held an awarding ceremony for four international student practice teaching bases. Vice President Shao Shujuan presented certificates to the representatives of the branded programs of the 2023 Scholarship for International Students.
Finally, all the faculty of International Education College expressed their blessings to the graduates in the form of a multilingual chorus, and the 2023 Winter Commencement Ceremony and the Second International Student Supervisor Conference came to an end with the melody of “Auld Lang Syne”.
The graduates expressed that in the future, they would tell the China’s story and convey China’s voice as alumni of Dalian Medical University, and would be good ambassadors of medical exchanges between China and the world, and contribute to a community with a shared future of mankind with their superb medical skills.
